I've ordered a book called: Programming: Principles and Practice using C++ by Bjarne Stroustrup. Programming principles and practice using C++ / Bjarne Stroustrup, Addison-Wesley, 2009. It a small part about GUI, but you can skip that. This is a review of the book “Programming Principles and Practice Using C++” by Bjarne Stroustrup. It is one of the best books about programming I have ever read. At 1200 pages, it will keep you busy for a while. Here is a really good introduction to C++, written by the original designer of C++. This book is Written by the inventor of C++, Programming Principles and Practice is not what you expect. Thinking in C++ (which I don't know) or Bjarne Stroustrup's classic The C++ Programming Language (also 1k pages) or his newest book, Programming - Principles and Practice Using C++ (which I haven't looked at yet). I would suggest Stroustrup's "Programming -- Principles and Practice Using C++".
